Job Description

We seek an experienced Chief Operating Engineer to oversee daily operations at our facility's utilities (boilers and refrigeration) and waste-water treatment plant. As a senior member of the Engineering/Maintenance Team, you will coordinate activities with the General Manager and ensure compliance with TSSA regulations.

This role requires a proven leader who can manage the powerhouse and utilities systems safely and efficiently, while maintaining good working conditions. You will be responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment modifications, and repairs.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate equipment and systems under the Powerhouse jurisdiction, including boilers, water treatment, compressed air systems, wastewater treatment, refrigeration systems, and HVAC equipment.
  2. In coordination with the Engineering Manager, manage and oversee the preventative maintenance and efficient operation of the Powerhouse.
  3. Develop maintenance programs, work schedules, and maintain records as required.
  4. Provide leadership and supervision to staff by providing work direction, performance feedback, and recommendations for training and development.
  5. Promote a positive working environment and continuously improve/maintain the team culture.
  6. Maintain & operate plant as per Technical Safety and Standards Authority (TSSA) regulations.
  7. Ensure OSHA regulations and Quality Assurance protocols are fully complied with.
  8. Analyze and record instrument readings and equipment malfunction.
  9. Troubleshoot, perform corrective action or minor repairs as required.
  10. Maintain daily log of operation, maintenance, and safety activities.
  11. Write plant or building operation reports.
  12. All other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Work hours may be irregular, requiring flexibility to work outside regular business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties. Non-standard hours worked are determined by the requirements of the Production Department to ensure efficient and safe operations.

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment, including eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

Requirements
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have strong English language skills.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a shift engineer in a manufacturing environment; experience in the food manufacturing industry considered an asset.
  • Certificates: 1st Class Stationary Engineer Certificate required (will be verified with TSSA); Refrigerator Operator Class 'A' Certificate.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus extended health benefits.

Please note that this position requires flexible working hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
