Job Title: Aboriginal Education Coordinator

Seabird Island Band is seeking a dedicated and culturally sensitive Aboriginal Education Coordinator to support the educational success of First Nations students.



Job Summary

The Aboriginal Education Coordinator will work under the direction of the School Principal to provide support, coordination, and contribution to education, training, and services focused on First Nations learners, organizations, and communities. This includes promoting enrolments, attendance, student success, program completion, and community relationships.



Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with students, parents, staff, and external stakeholders, including First Nations communities and organizations.
  • Provide career counselling to high school students, grades 8-12, as directed by the Principal.
  • Conduct home visits to discuss concerns with students, parents, and guardians, as directed by school administration.
  • Collaborate with the school student support team to promote student success and attendance.
  • Develop and maintain records as requested by administration.
  • Assist in the supervision of students at the school and at school functions, as required.


Requirements

The successful candidate will possess:




  • Completion of an Undergraduate Certificate in a related field.
  • Experience working within a First Nations context, with a keen understanding of First Nations traditions, culture, and community concerns.
  • Proven record of building strong relationships with First Nations students and families.
  • Strong knowledge of elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education in BC.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate well to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • High professional and ethical standards.
