About the Role

We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist to join our team in Montreal, QC. The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs, with experience setting up and managing EH&S programs in industrial and engineering settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain policies, programs, and procedures within the EH&S management system, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, local, and customer EH&S requirements.
  • Develop and implement company EH&S programs and policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure EH&S requirements are met during space planning, building expansions, and other changes in facilities or work areas.
  • Remain current with applicable regulations and company policies, advising leadership on EH&S-related programmatic change recommendations or requirements.
  • Focus on continuous improvement of EH&S programs in processes, systems, and products.
  • Conduct workplace surveys, safety audits, and assessments, advising management of conditions requiring corrective action.
  • Provide EH&S briefings and training sessions to fulfill regulatory requirements and foster a safe working environment.
  • Conduct and review job hazard assessments to identify and mitigate hazards in the workplace.
  • Lead the EH&S committee and engage all employees to take ownership of EH&S.
  • Support sustainability project identification and execution.
  • Support and guide accident investigations to determine thorough root cause and produce necessary documentation and permits.
  • Establish and maintain necessary contacts with site, municipal, provincial, federal regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a related capacity or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Strong technical understanding of occupational health and safety, and environmental regulations and practices.
  • Organizational skills, and cross-group work experience.
  • Requires both business knowledge and technical understanding in EH&S area.
  • Capability to guide teams without a formal management role.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively.
  • Ability to communicate with people at different levels of the organization, including communication with people at the sector/segment/corporate level.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Good knowledge of MS suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the Government of Canada's reliability status and Level 2 (secret) security clearance.
  • EHS-related professional accreditations (ASP, CSP, or similar).
  • Strong root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience using and leveraging EH&S common tools and systems, such as Gensuite.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and professionalism in all situations.
  • Fully bilingual, French and English.

Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory)

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO SECRET security clearance.
