About the Role

Sunnyside Elementary is seeking an Educational Program Assistant to join our team. As an Educational Program Assistant, you will work closely with our students and staff to provide support and assistance in a variety of educational settings.

Compensation

The starting annual salary for a 100% position is $35,817.70 including 4% vacation pay. The salary scales are based on a five-step scale with step increases occurring annually.

Job Description

This is a 10-month position with a work schedule in accordance with the school year calendar which includes time off at Christmas, March Break and Summer break.

You will be responsible for supporting students with their daily needs, assisting with lesson plans, and providing behavior management support. You will also be required to work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, and other support staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Training or willingness to be trained in Personal Care, Use of Assistive Technology, Behavior Management Support, and other medical related procedures
  • Experience working with Autism (an asset)
  • A related diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution (an asset)

Daily Hours of Work

The daily hours of work vary depending on the position:

  • 50% Position: 3.5 hours (includes one 15-minute paid break)
  • 80% Position: 6.1 hours (includes 1/2 hour unpaid lunch and two 15-minute paid breaks)
  • 100% Position: 7.5 hours (includes 1/2 hour unpaid lunch and two 15-minute paid breaks)
