Job Description

As a Lead Animator at Framestore, you will play a key role in setting the standard for animation quality within our team. You will work closely with our Animation Supervisors to produce high-quality animation and create compelling, story-driven and action-packed moments that fit within the style and pacing of our films.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead by Example: Set an example for animation quality within the Animation Department, demonstrating a deep understanding of performance, acting, and physical motion.
  • Collaborate with Supervisors: Work closely with the Animation Supervisor to produce high-quality animation, providing creative and technical feedback to your team.
  • Support Team Members: Lead the animation of a sequence or character, providing guidance and support to your team members.
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain ongoing communication with Production, Supervisors, and other Leads regarding schedules and deadlines.
  • Meet Deadlines: Work efficiently as part of a team, or independently, to complete assigned shots, submitting them for review and following through with notes and feedback.
  • Stay Up-to-Date: Continuously become familiar with new tools, software, data, and other related technology.
Essential Skills:
  • Leadership Experience: Previous experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of leading teams and setting high standards.
  • Technical Expertise: A thorough knowledge of Maya and a proven understanding of performance, acting, physical motion, weight, balance, texture, and form.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a team and other departments.
  • Adaptability: A demonstrable commitment to creative collaboration, with the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Attention to Detail: A proven ability to work accurately and efficiently, with a strong attention to detail.
Desirable Skills:
  • Storytelling Ability: An understanding of story, acting, and film-making, with the ability to bring a story to life through animation.
  • Traditional Animation Background: A traditional animation and/or art background, with a strong understanding of human and animal anatomy.
  • Technical Skills: A working knowledge of Modeling, Rigging, and Mel/Python scripting, with the ability to work with motion capture data.
