The English Schools Foundation (ESF) seeks a highly skilled and experienced Lead Science Laboratory Technician to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support the development of science education in ESF schools, promoting innovative learning environments and fostering safe, inclusive, and personalized experiences for students.
About the RoleThis role involves working closely with laboratory technicians, science teachers, and other stakeholders to enhance science pedagogy, address practical challenges, and leverage technology to promote hands-on science learning. Key responsibilities include:
- Staying up-to-date with the latest innovations from school science apparatus suppliers, testing new products, and making purchasing and use recommendations to science budget holders;
- Working with school science teams to design, test, and deliver innovative laboratory learning activities for all year groups;
- Acting as a critical friend to technician teams at each school, identifying areas of excellent practice and opportunities for improvement;
- Sharing best practices across all ESF schools to ensure a consistently high level of laboratory support for all ESF science students;
- Developing protocols to accurately catalogue inventory held by each science department and establishing effective maintenance procedures;
- Liaising with the Facilities Development Department (FDD) at the ESF Centre to ensure Health & Safety provisions in science laboratories align with ESF standards;
- Providing feedback and area expertise to the FDD team regarding laboratory safety and procedures;
- Acting as a Foundation-wide champion for safe working and learning practices;
- Offering mentoring to laboratory technicians at each ESF school, including onboarding new colleagues, supporting colleagues to undertake training and gain new skills, and supporting the laboratory technician 1 at each school to effectively lead and manage their teams;
- Planning, organising, and delivering regular professional training sessions to ESF laboratory technicians, focusing on identified areas of need;
- Exploring the possibility of creating an ESF laboratory technician training certificate;
- Encouraging laboratory technicians to work directly with students when appropriate, helping teachers with demonstrations, or supporting individual students with experimental design and data collection;
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a science-related subject;
- Approved Laboratory Technician Certificate or equivalent;
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a lead laboratory technician/laboratory technician 1 in a Secondary School that delivers a laboratory-based high school science curriculum to students in years 7-13;
- Strong experience in managing health and safety risks in school science laboratories;
- Fluent in spoken and written English;
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, or providing professional development for laboratory technicians and/or educators;
- Ability to work collaboratively with laboratory technicians, teachers, students, and other stakeholders;
The estimated salary for this role is HKD 65,000 - HKD 85,000 per month, depending on experience. If you are a motivated and experienced science education professional looking for a challenging and rewarding role, please apply.
