Claims Specialist

At Intact Financial Corporation, we're looking for a skilled Claims Specialist to join our Complex Injury Team. As a Claims Specialist, you'll play a critical role in handling Accident Benefit files, analyzing insurance policy wording, and communicating with customers, lawyers, and rehabilitation experts.
About the Role
We're seeking a detail-oriented and analytical individual with strong communication and problem-solving skills. You'll be responsible for:
- Handling a pending of Accident Benefit files while receiving regular intake of Complex and Catastrophic claims
- Analyzing and interpreting insurance policy wording to determine coverage and assess entitlements
- Communicating in a timely and respectful manner with customers, lawyers, and rehabilitation experts
- Instructing Counsel on files in dispute
- Conducting investigations and identifying additional information required to clarify and/or justify a claim
- Participating in the dispute process on your own files that are of a complex nature
- Representing the company in the negotiation and settlement process at the License Appeal Tribunal
- Completing regular reporting as required and liaising with Technical Services to ensure appropriate action and reserving is in place
- Participating in Large Loss Meetings on own files where appropriate
- Completing coaching initiatives
- Completing other duties as assigned as deemed reasonable to assist the Business
What You Bring to the Table
- University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role
- At least 5+ years of Accident Benefit claims handling experience
- Handling experience of complex and catastrophic files is considered an asset
- Knowledge of provincial legislation governing auto insurance, with ancillary legislation and knowledge of the Dispute Resolution Practice Code
- Experienced in negotiations and demonstrated experience with independently settling Complex Accident Benefit files
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff
- Excellent customer service skills
