Key Responsibilities- Consultation and Diagnosis: Collaborate with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health, providing accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Medication and Treatment: Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, ensuring the highest level of patient care.
- Preventative Care: Inoculate and vaccinate patients to prevent and treat diseases, promoting overall health and well-being.
- Patient Education: Advise patients on healthcare, providing guidance on healthy lifestyle choices and disease prevention.
- Reporting and Record-Keeping: Report births, deaths, contagious diseases, and other health-related incidents to government authorities, maintaining accurate records.
- Patient Advocacy: Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their needs are met and their rights are respected.
- Primary Care Coordination: Coordinate or manage primary patient care, working closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care.
- Counselling and Support: Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues.
- Education: Hold a degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry.
- Work Setting: Work in an urban area, preferably in a private practice setting.
- Certifications and Licenses: Possess College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP), Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC), and licensure by provincial or territorial authorities.
- Personal Qualities: Demonstrate accurate, client-focused, dependable, efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication, flexibility, initiative, interpersonal awareness, judgement, organized, reliability, team player, and values and ethics.
- Experience: Have at least 2 years of experience in family medicine, with a strong understanding of primary care principles.
