Job Title: Metallurgist/Corrosion Protection/Welding Specialist

Alstom is seeking a highly skilled Metallurgist/Corrosion Protection/Welding Specialist to join our Materials and Special Engineering Process team. As a key member of our Train Design Center, you will be responsible for defining durability requirements for all materials and mechanical fixations, examining operating environment considerations such as climate, cleaning, vandalism, and maintenance.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop strategies for surface corrosion protection and painting, working closely with Industrialization teams.
  • Create locally relevant training material based on corporate recommendations and moderate awareness sessions with stakeholders across Engineering, Industrialization, Procurement, and Project Management.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and supplier quality reviews, ensuring durability requirements are met.
  • Identify risks of non-compliance and potential failure in revenue service.
  • Review and approve test programs to meet Alstom and customer requirements.
  • Design, examine, and evaluate welds, defining appropriate symbols for drawings to ensure product integrity and longevity.
  • Plan, supervise, and document welding operations in accordance with relevant codes, contracts, and/or drawings.
  • Participate in supplier quality reviews and internal project gate reviews, identifying risks of non-compliance with technical requirements.
  • Troubleshoot, working hands-on with internal design and integration teams and suppliers, defining corrective measures as required.
Desired Profile:
  • Engineering degree with a background in Welding Technology, Metallurgy, and/or Material Science.
  • Registered or eligible to be registered with the OIQ (L'Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec).
  • 5+ years of experience in welding/surface protection (design, review, quality assurance).
  • Good understanding of material properties, including mechanical and chemical resistance.
  • Understanding of railway-specific standards is an asset.
  • Refined soft skills to build and maintain relationships with other Engineers/Designers and welders.
  • Fluent in French and English.
  • Available to travel occasionally outside of Montreal area.
