Job Title: Lab Technician, Science

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our Science department at Branksome Hall. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of our science labs, preparing materials, setting up labs for classes, and supporting students as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain lab equipment, supplies, and materials for all science classes.

  • Set up and organize labs for classes, including Biotechnology labs.

  • Assist teachers and students with locating supplies, lending out equipment, and ordering new supplies.

  • Organize the disposal of chemical and biological waste, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

  • Update and maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, chemicals, and MSDS sheets.

  • Supervise dry ice delivery and ensure proper safety precautions are followed.

  • Participate in monthly risk management, inspecting labs to ensure compliance and identifying potential health and safety risks.

  • Provide instruction and assistance to students on MSDS sheets and specific techniques concerning scientific concepts and projects.

  • Work closely with the maintenance department to request and follow-up on repairs and lab improvements.

Requirements:

  • Related post-secondary training, including completion of lab technician courses or equivalent.

  • WHMIS training is considered a strong asset.

  • Lab technician technical expertise.

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Able to understand and follow through on instructions and direction.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite applications.
