Building Maintenance Worker

Main Purpose and Function

The City of Vancouver is seeking a skilled Building Worker to join our team of auxiliary staff at Community Centres and Mobile Parks. This role involves providing janitorial services, performing minor maintenance tasks, and ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of heavy cleaning tasks, including stripping and waxing floors, cleaning windows, and cleaning washrooms, showers, and change rooms.
  • Operate a vehicle safely and efficiently to provide janitorial services for public bathrooms and change rooms in parks.
  • Perform minor maintenance repairs and other related duties as required.
  • Work a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized certification program in building services work and some related experience.
  • Experience performing a variety of routine manual tasks in care, cleaning, and general maintenance of buildings.
  • Experience operating and using janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • WHMIS is preferred.

Requirements

  • A current and valid class 5 BC Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required for the Mobile Parks Team, but not for the Community Centres Team.
  • All applicants must attach a copy of their Building Services Work certification and any other relevant documents to their application.
