Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our hemodialysis team as an educator. In this role, you will provide practical nursing services in a hemodialysis environment, performing varied and complex renal interventions. You will work collaboratively with our interprofessional team to facilitate safe and effective interventions. Your responsibilities will include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care during the pre-dialysis, dialysis, and immediate post-dialysis periods. You will also provide support and educational material to patients and their families.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Assesses patients' conditions, individual needs, and plans nursing care in collaboration with the RN and other members of the nephrology team.
  • Performs nursing duties related to hemodialysis, including weighing patients pre and post-dialysis, cannulation of established fistula or graft, and continuous heparin regulation with RN guidance.
  • Collaborates with the RN and other members of the nephrology team to provide appropriate nursing interventions and monitor patients for changes or unusual signs or symptoms.
  • Documents observations, treatment, and patient care activities during the pre, intra, and post-dialysis periods.
  • Works collaboratively with the RN to assess changes in patients' physical and emotional needs and determine the appropriate level of care required.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant equipment used for the dialysis process, theory, and mechanics of dialysis, to recognize problems with machinery and inform appropriate staff members.

Requirements



  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification.
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Dialysis Program for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • One year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Vaccination Requirement


As per the current Public Health Orders, all employees working for Providence Health Care must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
