We are seeking a skilled Blaster to conduct surface production blasting operations at our mining facility near Wawa, ON. The successful candidate will have the responsibility of conducting blasting operations in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to Dyno Nobel and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct surface production blasting operations in a safe and efficient manner.
- Interface closely with the Mine Operations team to ensure safety and optimization of blasting operations.
- Communicate technical expertise to operations personnel as necessary to ensure that the drilling and blasting program adheres to internal standards and is continually optimized.
- Perform assigned blasting activities, including drilling and blasting operations.
- Work as a job site blaster and receive direction from Site Operations Manager and/or Mine Drill & Blast Superintendent.
- Provide input on blast-related activities to aid direct supervisor in plans.
- Identify blast site problems and resolve with Site Operations Manager and/or Mine Drill & Blast Superintendent, if necessary.
- Verify that pre-blast inspections have been conducted prior to blasting.
- Understand and follow all Company safety policies and practices.
- Monitor the relationship between blast pattern and type of digging and report results to Site Operations Manager or Mine Drill & Blast Superintendent.
- Document use of explosives and complete required inventory paperwork.
- Complete field accounting reports and required trip manifest forms as needed.
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a blaster and hold active blasting license.
- Experience with electronic blasting systems and non-electric systems.
- Experience with bulk emulsions, namely gassed products.
- Experience of safety systems utilized during pumping of bulk products.
- Experience conducting development blasting applications.
- Experience with drilling operations.
- Experience and understanding of overall blast design and safety procedures of blasting & drilling operations.
- Knowledge of mine drilling and blasting standards, production techniques and equipment, safety and environmental regulations.
- Ability to drive a pick-up truck daily.
- Ability to use computerized equipment and technology.
- Ability to work in a very stressful, deadline-oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making.
- Good communication skills and interpersonal skills.
