Job Title: Director, Canadian Banking Audit

Job Summary:

The Director, Canadian Banking Audit will lead and oversee internal audit activities for Canadian Banking, ensuring compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as an Audit Principal or Officer in Charge for assigned audits, overseeing execution, planning, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with other audit teams as needed.
  • Conduct complex and confidential projects or investigations.
  • Ensure audit results are gathered, root causes identified, and corrective actions implemented.
  • Lead a client-focused culture to deepen relationships and leverage broader Bank connections.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daily activities and decisions.
  • Plan, document, and confirm project approaches and conclusions in writing.
  • Maintain Scotiabank standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors Code of Ethics.
  • BUILD strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and regulators as required.
  • Interact and coordinate with other groups involved, completing timely review of workpapers.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring activities to stay abreast of changes, emerging risks, and themes.
  • BUILD a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates the team.
  • Meet Department training requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • University or Post-secondary degree in Business or equivalent.
  • Relevant Audit, accounting, or business certifications (CIA, CPA, CFA, etc).
  • At least 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • A thorough knowledge of Canadian Banking products and services, processes, and controls.
  • Working knowledge of back-office processes and regulatory environments.
  • Proven ability to work in ambiguity and a rapidly changing environment.
  • Highly proficient at applying Scotiabank methodology and risk-based auditing standards.
  • Strong analytical skills in data analytics or visualization tools.
  • Ability to supervise multiple projects at any given time.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong people management and coaching/development skills.
  • Curiosity mindset.
