Mental Health Crisis Support Specialist

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre (PGNFC) is committed to delivering programs and services that prioritize reconciliation and cultural safety. As a Mental Health Crisis Peer Support Worker, you will play a critical role in our Peer Assisted Care Team (PACT), providing crisis support services that integrate cultural protocols and holistic care options.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide crisis assessment and intervention services to individuals and families experiencing mental health crises in Prince George.
- Work collaboratively with a mental health professional and peer team to provide mobile crisis support services.
- Utilize knowledge and experiences in crisis de-escalation, harm reduction, suicide prevention, anti-oppressive practice, client-centred care, trauma-informed practice, and culturally competent care.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.
- Education in a related field with a combination of related lived or living experience in Mental Health.
- Experience in community mental health and addictions field.
- Certification in or willingness to obtain: First Aid, Food Safe, Class 4 Driver's License, Suicide Intervention, and Conflict Resolution, Naloxone Training.
- Ability to undergo a successful criminal record search.
- Ability to work outdoors and understand harm reduction as a practice.
- A strong knowledge of clinical and crisis assessments, concurrent disorders, homelessness, crisis intervention strategies, trauma-informed practice, strengths-based models.
- Understanding and knowledge of working with persons with mental health and/or addictions issues as well as an understanding of the intersectionality of systemic barriers and social determinants of health.
- Knowledge of systemic and structural factors that impact Black, Indigenous, racialized and LGBTQ2S+ communities.
- The ability to maintain a non-judgmental and non-stigmatizing approach is required.
- Willingness to participate in on-the-job on-going training and outside training.
- Good verbal, written communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be willing to work shifts that include overnight, weekends, and holidays.
- Starting wage $33/hr. - $35/hr. depending on education and experience.
Preference will be considered for Indigenous applicants.
