Senior Estimator Job Description

TalentSphere Staffing Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our team. As a Senior Estimator, you will play a crucial role in calculating major construction cost estimates, planning, developing, negotiating, and executing contracts for projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze plans and specifications, clarify locations, and document discrepancies.
  • Confirm the need for a site visit and coordinate attendance.
  • Organize plans and specifications for display, distribution, and posting on the company website.
  • Complete pre-bid forms and set up a summary sheet.
  • Fulfill bonding and insurance requests and submissions.
  • Prepare a sub-trade request list for the estimating assistant.
  • Solicit bidders, prepare a sub-trade request list for distribution, and note special trades to be personally called.
  • Manage RFI's internally and from sub-trades and maintain a log.
  • Perform take-offs and extensions for all trades, with a focus on divisions 2 (30) and division 3 scope of work.
  • Read and understand soils and designated substance reports.
  • Conduct a cut and fill take-off, excavation backfill, site servicing, and formwork and concrete quantities and pricing.
  • Work on unit-rate tenders and perform take-offs directly related to the units.
  • Attend site visits, take pictures, notes, and interact with owner/consultant.
  • Recapitulate, price, and extend quantity take-off.
  • Read, understand, and distribute all addenda.
  • Build a preliminary tender schedule based on major and long delivery dates and review with the construction department.
  • Prepare the closing sheet.
  • Identify risk or opportunity avenues.
  • Prepare the tender form in advance.
  • Prepare comparison spreadsheets for individual divisions of work for closing.
  • Closing a division or more during a tender.
  • Perform Class D, C, B, and A budgets and interact with clients.
Qualification Requirements:
  • Possess an Engineering degree, Construction Management degree, Technical College diploma, or an equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Accumulate a minimum of 10 years of experience in the ICI construction industry or an equivalent field.
  • Demonstrate experience in Construction Management and Design Build projects.
  • Exhibit proficiency in computer skills, including the effective use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.
  • Showcase a proven ability to successfully manage tender closings.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge across all facets of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling, and safety requirements.
  • Possession of Gold Seal Certification is considered an asset.
  • LEED Accreditation is valued as an asset.
  • Familiarity with Procore and BIM software is advantageous.
