As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of passengers by safely operating the bus and adhering to the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the bus safely and efficiently, adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Provide reliable transportation services to designated locations on time and on schedule.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip maintenance on vehicles, including safety inspections and reporting any defects or problems.
  • Ensure the vehicle is returned with a full tank of gas and perform routine inspections to ensure its safety.
  • Report any damage to VIU vehicles or rental vehicles in your care to Facilities Services & Campus Development.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the bus, including those with mobility challenges.
  • Keep accurate records of mileage, trips, and other required documentation.
  • Interact with VIU staff and passengers, providing excellent customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Valid Class 4 driver's license and minimum 2 years non-learner experience
  • Clean Driver Abstract
  • Physical capability to perform the job duties
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexibility to work on a casual and/or temporary basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a bus driver
  • First aid certification
  • Familiarity with the Vancouver Island area, including knowledge of alternate routes and traffic patterns
