KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Chief Operating Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the mill, adhering to all regulatory requirements and company expectations. This includes managing TFH operators, providing support to maintenance and planning, and assuming responsibilities for zone maintenance.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Manage the workload for TFH operators, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide shutdown and start-up support for outages, ensuring that all necessary preparations are made.
  • Support Hog Fuel management, working closely with other teams to optimize performance.
  • Participate in energy initiatives led by the Energy Manager, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Act as the TFH Planning lead/contact for shutdowns, ensuring that all necessary plans are in place.
  • Participate in down days and planning support, working with other teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Conduct daily preparations for 10am in TFH, ensuring that all necessary tasks are completed.
  • Provide training to TFH operators, developing their skills and knowledge.

KEY EXPECTATIONS:

  • Leads by example, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and safety.
  • Promotes cross-training and operates and maintains equipment through personal leadership and coaching of others.
  • Participates in 11am control room meetings for Technician staff, ensuring that all necessary information is shared.
  • Coaches operators one on one, developing their skills and knowledge.

KEY SAFETY/HOUSEKEEPING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads safety orientations for all staff in the TFH area, ensuring that all necessary procedures are understood.
  • Implements and maintains safe work practices for areas owned, ensuring that all necessary protocols are in place.
  • Owns the TFH manual for accuracy, ensuring that all necessary information is up-to-date.
  • Must be personally lockout certified for TFH/Refining and Drying areas, ensuring that all necessary procedures are followed.
  • Lockout Certifier for your areas, ensuring that all necessary procedures are followed.
  • Safety will always be a consideration when planning any events or completing tasks.
  • Leads housekeeping in TFH/Dryer/Lump separator and Hog areas, promoting a safe and professional work environment.
  • Audits lockout boards, encouraging the use of Lasers.
  • Owns operational blow down for area, working to reduce fugitive fiber.

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • TFH Chemical Budget, managing all necessary expenses.
  • Any contractor costs associated with operational work in your area, ensuring that all necessary procedures are followed.
  • Manages overtime costs for TFH operations, ensuring that all necessary procedures are followed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Operating Engineer 2nd Class Provincial Certificate, ensuring that all necessary requirements are met.
  • Extensive knowledge of equipment in TFH/Refining/Lump separator and Dryer rooms, ensuring that all necessary procedures are followed.
