Support Service Assistant for Students with Disabilities

The Role
Academic Accessibility Assistants play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities at Douglas College. Their tasks include preparing print materials for student accommodations and providing support in various subject areas. This role is an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their learning and gain valuable experience working with students with diverse abilities.
Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of print materials for student accommodations, including scanning to e-text and photo-enlarging.
- Assist students with reading and scribing tasks.
- Perform other assigned tasks to support students with disabilities.
Requirements
- Expertise and high achievement in subject areas as needed to support students with disabilities.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to encourage and support students with disabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal fluency in English.
Eligibility Criteria
Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for this role:
- Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more 3-credit courses at Douglas College throughout the work term.
- Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more 3-credit courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and intend to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term.
- Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of two or more 3-credit courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term.
- Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more 3-credit courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and intend to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.
International Students
International students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for this role:
- Be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
- Be an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that allows on-campus employment.
