Job Title: Journeyperson Welder - Structural Steel

Powell Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Journeyperson Welder - Structural Steel to join our Electrical Division in Edmonton. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for producing high-quality structural steel and sheet metal products using various welding processes and tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Fit-up weldments according to mechanical engineered drawings and product specifications.
  • Setup and operate CC and CV welding machines to achieve desired quality results.
  • Work with small hand tools, clamps, and grinders to fit-up and weld structural steel and sheet metal products.
  • Perform light maintenance on welding equipment, including replacing contact tips and nozzles, liners, and entire weld gun assemblies.
  • Operate plasma cutters and cut materials using power tools or by hand.
  • Operate automatic band saw and Mag drill.
  • Participate in Powell's ongoing Safety Training.
  • Assist Lead Persons with training and mentoring other employees.
  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying potential risks to product quality.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean and well-organized.
Requirements:
  • Valid Provincial or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Welder or Journeyperson Fitter certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Journeyperson in related structural steel fabrication.
  • MIG experience is considered an asset.
  • CWB Certification FCAW S-classification is required.
  • CSTS 2020 Fundamentals and 8 additional modules are required before hire date.
  • Overhead crane ticket (10-80 ton) and forklift operation ticket (3000#-20000#) are considered assets.
  • Safety certifications are an asset for the position.
Working Conditions:
  • Safety-sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times, including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety harnesses as required.
  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders and scaffolding.
  • Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air using proper lift equipment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
  • Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.
  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders, and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
