Job Summary

Interior Health Authority is seeking a skilled Nursing Unit Clerk to join their team at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, B.C. As a Nursing Unit Clerk, you will play a vital role in the operation of a patient/resident care area, providing exceptional support to patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Key Responsibilities

Prioritize, process, coordinate, and transcribe physicians' orders in a timely and accurate manner.

Serve as a communication link for the unit, ensuring seamless communication between patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Schedule, book, and coordinate patient/resident appointments, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.

Assemble and maintain patient/resident charts, input patient/resident data, and transcribe information into relevant systems, such as MARS, Kardex, Careplan, charts, or electronic health record systems.

Perform various clerical duties, including keyboarding, data entry, filing, compiling, preparing, and maintaining statistics, producing reports, delivering, and picking up items, maintaining unit supply levels, and meeting minutes.

Maintain timekeeping records for regular and relief staff and submit/enter to payroll systems.

Observe patient/resident call signals and relay messages to the appropriate personnel.

Requirements

Completion of Grade 12.

A current Typing Test of 40 wpm or greater completed within the past 48 months from a recognized institution.

A Nursing Unit Clerk Certificate.

Your Resume.

A Cover Letter stating your availability to start in a new position.

Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience:

Grade 12,

Graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program and Medical Terminology, Plus

One year's recent related experience, Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Completion of an administered 5-minute typing certificate of 40 wpm in the last 48 months from an approved institution (non-supervised tests are not accepted).

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to keyboard 40 wpm.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment.

Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
