St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton is committed to delivering high-quality patient care and services to our community. We are seeking a highly skilled General Surgery Assistant to join our team as a Surgical Care Coordinator.

About the Role:

The Surgical Care Coordinator will work closely with the supervising General Surgery Physician and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate and evaluate patient care for selected patients within the area. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a collaborative practice model with an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate patient care for selected patients within the area
  • Evaluate patient care and provide feedback to the supervising physician
  • Develop and implement plans of care that meet the needs of patients and families
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient information
Requirements:
  • Graduate of MOHLTC-approved program including the Canadian Forces Physician Assistant Training Program or Graduate of a Canadian or American Physician Assistant Training Program
  • Successful completion of the Canadian PA Certificate exam
  • BCLS and ACLS certificates required
  • Certification by the National Council for Assistants (American trained Physician Assistants only)
  • Experience in a General Surgery setting as part of maintenance program strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative practice model with an interdisciplinary team
