Educational Specialist for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

At the Richmond School District, we are seeking a highly skilled Hearing Resource Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in supporting students with hearing loss and cochlear implants, as well as experience working collaboratively with school teams and parents.
About the Role:The successful applicant will be responsible for providing direct and consultative services to support the development of speech, language, cognition, audition, advocacy, and social and academic development of deaf and hard of hearing students. This includes teaching students directly, assessing equipment needs, and providing ongoing support in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct assessments and provide written reports on student progress
- Interpret audiological reports and their educational impact for school teams
- Support student transitions into kindergarten, secondary, and post-secondary education
- Liaise with school teams and parents regarding instructional strategies, universal and essential supports, language development, acoustics, amplification, and assistive listening devices
In addition, the Hearing Resource Teacher will provide habilitation services to students with cochlear implants. All positions within Learning Services engage in supporting the District's Strategic Plan, specifically, Strategic Priority 1: Inspired Learners and Strategic Priority 2: Equity and Inclusion.
Requirements:- Valid B.C. Teaching Certificate
- Master's degree in Deaf Education or Diploma in Deaf Education
- Certified or eligible for certification by the Canadian Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CAEDHH)
- Demonstrated experience working with students who have hearing loss and cochlear implants
- Expertise in the principles, best practice strategies, resources, and technologies in the education of students with hearing loss
We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience, and a comprehensive benefits package.
