Job Title: Fire Protection Systems Specialist

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Fire Protection Engineer to join our Buildings Engineering team in Ottawa, Ontario. As a Fire Protection Systems Specialist, you will play a key role in assessing fire protection needs within projects, designing and selecting mechanical systems, and creating drawings and schematics using CAD or BIM software.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Engineering Design Tasks: Perform complex fire protection system design on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Code Reviews and Analyses: Conduct fire/life safety code reviews and analyses to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Mentorship and Development: Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews on fire protection system projects to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Project Coordination: Lead project coordination meetings to ensure seamless collaboration among stakeholders.
  • Specification Preparation: Prepare and coordinate project specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Staff Supervision: Provide direct supervision to assigned staff to ensure they have the necessary resources and support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong Understanding of Project Document Production: Possess a strong understanding of all phases of project document production.
  • HydraCAD Experience: Strong experience working with HydraCAD to complete fire sprinkler hydraulic calculations.
  • CFD Modeling Tools: Experience with FDS, CFAST, ASCOS, and other CFD modeling tools is considered an asset.
  • Mechanical Systems Knowledge: Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and industry standards.
  • Codes and Standards: Comprehensive knowledge of codes and standards applicable to Ontario and Federal projects.
  • Leadership and Presentation Skills: Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production and possess strong presentation and interview skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (emphasis in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum Work Experience: 8 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
