Confederation College is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Sessional Professor to teach plumbing courses in our Workforce Development department.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering courses and labs related to plumbing, engaging students in the classroom and lab environment, and providing a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources. The candidate will also be expected to evaluate student progress and achievement, actively contribute to student success, and assist, advise, coach, and mentor students with course choices, career possibilities, and opportunities to continue their education at the advanced degree level.
Responsibilities:- Develop and deliver courses and labs related to plumbing
- Engage students in the classroom and lab environment
- Provide a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources
- Evaluate student progress and achievement
- Actively contribute to student success
- Assist, advise, coach, and mentor students
- Lead, participate in, and contribute to special events, consultative committees, and program and course curriculum design and revisions
- Champion the development of customized training and educational programs in collaboration with public and private sector partners
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- A valid Certificate of Qualification in a Plumbing
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in a leadership role, including experience related to supervision of apprentices, students, or trainees
- Expertise and progressively responsible experience in the applicable disciplines
- Thorough knowledge of current safety standards
- Expertise and progressively responsible experience in their trade, apprenticeship model, and modular training
- A commitment to education equity to teach diverse student populations and work with colleagues or clients from various backgrounds
- Experience working in a First Nation community
- The ability to maintain and develop community, industry, and government contacts
- Previous teaching or training experience at a postsecondary level
- A current professional affiliation
- Proven ability to excel in a team environment and a demonstrated commitment to life-long learning
- Previous experience including innovative classroom presentation techniques
- A degree or diploma in Education and/or expertise in both stand-up delivery and distributed learning
The successful applicant will be required to submit a criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening prior to commencement of employment.
