Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Power System Studies team as a Technical Lead in Electromagnetic Transient Power System Studies (EMT). The successful candidate will oversee a team of engineers in the execution of EMT studies for various power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution levels, with a focus on simulation and analysis of HVDC and inverter-based resource (IBR) systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Leadership: Provide direct project leadership on EMT power system studies projects, including developing methodologies, preparing models, analyzing results, and preparing study reports.
  • Client Relations: Meet with clients to report on project progress and study results, and provide technical support in AC and DC transmission system design and operation.
  • Business Development: Participate in marketing and business development activities related to power system studies, prepare proposals, and manage client relations regarding business development and work assignments.
  • Leadership and Management: Provide technical advice and mentorship to team members, identify training requirements and opportunities, and stay updated on the latest simulation tools and techniques used in the industry.
Requirements:
  • Expertise: Expertise in power system studies with emphasis on EMT analysis and strong background in static and dynamic modeling of HVDC converters and other power electronic devices.
  • Software Skills: Expert user of PSCAD and other EMT software applications, and strong background in power system analysis software including PSSE, PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, CYME, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Education and Experience: MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering preferred, Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng and/or PE) required, and minimum of 15 years of experience as an electrical engineer, focusing on EMT studies.
