Job Title: Deputy Chief Obstetrics

Central Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced physician to fill the role of Deputy Chief Obstetrics. This is a part-time term position for 3 years, located in the Central Health region.

Job Summary:

The Deputy Chief Obstetrics will provide leadership and support to the Department Chief Family Medicine and Medical Director Primary Care. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Department Chief and Medical Director to provide effective organization, management, and functioning of the Medical Staff within the Family Medicine department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Department Chief and Medical Director to update plans for physician resources, space, supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Assist the Department Chief and Medical Director in the appointment, reappointment, privileging, remediation, and discipline processes.
  • Develop and maintain a physician resource plan.
  • Assist in physician recruitment, orientation, and retention within the Department.
  • Develop and establish quality assurance, quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, and utilization activities within the Department.
  • Participate in Departmental multidisciplinary quality improvement management programs.
  • Assist the Department Chief and Medical Director in addressing matters related to professional and ethical conduct, continuing professional development, and teaching and research.
  • Assist in the overall management of the Department, including acting as Chief during short-term absences and call coverage schedules.
Requirements:
  • Current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • College of Family Physicians of Canada certification is an asset.
  • Satisfy credentialing requirements of Central Health.
  • Formal physician leadership training and/or equivalent experience.
  • Complete education in quality and patient safety as required.
