Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Welfare Attorney to join our team at Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing legal services to children, youth, and families within our catchment area.

About the Role:

  • Provide legal advice and representation to Agency staff on matters related to child welfare, family law, and Indigenous service delivery.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures that promote the well-being of children, youth, and families.
  • Work collaboratively with community partners to identify and address systemic barriers to accessing services.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in areas relevant to child welfare and Indigenous service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement case plans that meet the unique needs of each client.
  2. Provide legal representation in court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and appeals.
  3. Collaborate with social workers and other professionals to provide comprehensive support services to clients.
  4. Conduct research and analysis to identify best practices and emerging trends in child welfare and Indigenous service delivery.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in law or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in child welfare and/or Indigenous service delivery.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
