Job Description for Optical Laboratory Assistant

Akala Optical is seeking a skilled Optical Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As an Optical Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting healthcare professionals with various tasks, including administering eye drops, ointments, and medications. You will also be responsible for developing information materials for patients, following through on treatment programs, and maintaining prescription records.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer eye drops, ointments, and medications as directed by ophthalmologists
  • Assist healthcare professionals with various tasks
  • Develop information materials for patients
  • Follow through on treatment programs with patients
  • Maintain prescription records
  • Set up and dismantle equipment
  • Clean and maintain equipment
  • Lay out surgical instruments
  • Prepare and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Record information about donors
  • Assist chiropractor with patient health education
  • Clean and dress wounds
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment and instrumentation for re-use according to standardized safety practices
  • Process claims such as health insurance or workers compensation
  • Remove casts, sutures, and pins
  • Maintain supplies
  • Maintain inventory of equipment
  • Perform general clerical duties
  • Prepare and maintain cleanliness of collection areas
  • Process files and paperwork
  • Schedule and confirm appointments
  • Take patients' general medical and ophthalmic history
