Woodlands Superintendent

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning and supervising road construction, road maintenance, harvesting, and log hauling operations in various locations across Northeast Ontario. This role can be based out of either our Timmins or Elk Lake location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Woodlands Managers in achieving their objectives.
  • Mentor and lead a younger team of Woodlands Supervisors.
  • Coordinate and support forest operations, including road building, road maintenance, harvesting, and log hauling.
  • Ensure operations are carried out safely, legally, and efficiently, adhering to all regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain short- and long-term operational plans and ensure full utilization of the forest resource to the benefit of the Company.
  • Prepare blocks for harvest and schedule work with respective contractors.
  • Liaise with the MNRF on day-to-day operational issues.
  • Communicate and report weekly production levels and targets.
  • Prepare incident investigations and follow up on incident report recommendations.
  • Carry out Environmental and Safety inspections and develop and follow up on action plans resulting from those inspections.
  • Support the Log Quality Program, including providing measured data for quality control monitoring and contractor follow-up.

Requirements

  • 10+ years' experience in harvesting and road construction-related operations.
  • Education in forestry or forest management, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license.
  • Familiar with forest harvest systems and road construction techniques, including bridge construction.
  • Working knowledge of forestry regulations (Crown Forest Sustainability Act) and OH&S Act & Regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills. Bilingual is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and problem solve.
  • Commitment to high safety and environmental standards.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Ability to work for extended periods outdoors, in a forested environment, and in various weather and field conditions.
  • Ability to work away from home for days at a time when needed.
  • Ability to meet changing priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
