Main Purpose and Function


The Senior Electrical Engineer, Traffic Signal Design and Construction is responsible for managing the delivery of annual electrical work and overseeing the design team. This position reports directly to the Associate Director, Electrical Design and is responsible for ensuring timely and quality services to clients internal and external to the City of Vancouver.

Key Responsibilities



  • Lead the Electrical Design staff in delivering on strategic objectives and the continuous improvement of services related to the City's electrical infrastructure.
  • Assist in prioritization, administration and execution of the electrical infrastructure capital plan, working in partnership with the Divisional Asset Manager/Engineer and Operations.
  • Ensure asset management strategies and plans are established for all electrical infrastructure.
  • Manage the technical staff to ensure delivery in accordance with standards, regulations and specifications.
  • Conduct internal audits and lead and prepare the team for external audits.

Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a Professional Engineer designation and minimum 6 years related experience in design and construction project engineering work, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
  • Project Management Credentials (PMP) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles, standards, and specifications, as they relate to the municipal environment.
  • Ability to lead and review the work of a technical design team.
  • Ability to manage and lead a diverse team in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organizational and time management skills in a high volume and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work and think strategically, including experience with business case composition and evaluation, strategic planning and development and implementation of Key Performance Indicators.
