Automotive Parts Specialist

The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is seeking a skilled Automotive Parts Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Civic Garage, you will work closely with Journeyman Technicians to identify and procure the necessary parts for repairs. Your expertise in ordering and issuing parts for heavy-duty, automotive, and agriculture equipment will be invaluable in ensuring the smooth operation of our fleet.
Responsibilities:
- Review manuals and specification sheets to accurately identify required parts
- Collaborate with internal departments to supply commodities and materials for the parts room
- Work with vendors to create purchase orders and procure parts
- Operate forklifts and loaders as needed
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 coverage
Requirements:
- Grade 12, supplemented by an Automotive Parts Person Journeyman Certificate
- Minimum two years' experience as a Journeyman Parts Technician
- Knowledge of mechanical principles and the operating and repair characteristics of City vehicles
- Ability to understand part uses and suggest alternatives
- Proficiency in JD Edwards inventory and work order programs, Microsoft Office, and other support equipment
- Knowledge of special tools and equipment required by other trades
- Ability to maintain accurate inventory and records
- Ability to comprehend and understand Tender Documents
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with regular interruptions
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License and ability to exert light to moderate physical effort
- Provision of a criminal records check due to working unsupervised in a parts warehouse
- Ability to take calls in a rotation for after-hours emergencies

Remuneration:
$37.12 to $39.07 per hour
Hours of Work:
80 hours biweekly; availability required for day, evening, and weekend shifts as scheduled
