Job Summary

The Peel District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Graduation Coach to join our team. As a key member of our equity team, you will play a vital role in supporting students from marginalized communities who are underserved. Your primary responsibility will be to assist with leading and implementing programs, services, and other supports to meet the needs of these students, with a focus on student success to high school graduation and beyond.

This is an exceptional opportunity to work with a diverse group of students, families, and community members to develop both short and long-term plans to identify students from marginalized communities who are underserved in our schools. You will work within the framework of providing equitable access to education and creating spaces where students are positioned to demonstrate excellence in academic achievement and well-being.

As a Graduation Coach, you will be responsible for engaging students from marginalized communities by affirming their intersecting identities and cultures. You will also support students using a trauma-informed approach, honoring all aspects of their identities through wraparound support, and ensuring they have access to resources that affirm their identities.

You will collaborate with school administrators, other graduation coaches, teachers, families, system staff, and community resources to identify systemic barriers and develop meaningful solutions to support the engagement, well-being, and academic achievement of diverse students. You will also advocate with educators, administrators, and families to affirm the identities and cultures of diverse students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage students from marginalized communities by affirming their intersecting identities and cultures.
  • Support students using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Honor all aspects of students' identities through wraparound support.
  • Ensure students have access to resources that affirm their identities.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, other graduation coaches, teachers, families, system staff, and community resources to identify systemic barriers and develop meaningful solutions.
  • Advocate with educators, administrators, and families to affirm the identities and cultures of diverse students.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Social Work or a related field with two years' successful experience working with students from marginalized communities who are underserved.
  • Experience working with students/young adults aged 13-21.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression.
  • Life experience deeply rooted in local communities traditionally marginalized by systems of oppression.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum and Assessment practices.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a reliable vehicle for Board business as regular travel is required.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario driver's license.
  • Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends in order to meet program needs.
