At Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc., we are seeking a highly experienced Senior Soil Scientist to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with a strong background in soil science and environmental consulting.

About the Position

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing our soils scope for projects in Alberta and other Canadian locations. Key responsibilities include conducting desktop and field delineations, classifications for eco-types, mitigation plan development, permitting, and restoration monitoring.

We require a Senior Soil Scientist with at least 10 years of experience in soil study design, project management, environmental consulting, and business development. The ideal candidate should possess advanced knowledge of soil classification according to the Canadian System of Soil Classification, Canadian Soil Information System, and Alberta Soil Names File (Generation 4) User's Handbook in boreal, parkland, and prairie habitats of western Canada.

The selected candidate will work independently or as part of small crews, communicating and coordinating effectively with site management and supervisors. Fieldwork will involve long days (8-12 hours), often in extreme temperatures and wind speeds, and may occur in remote locations with limited cellphone signal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage soils scope for projects in Alberta and other Canadian locations.
  • Conduct desktop and field delineations, classifications for eco-types, mitigation plan development, permitting, and restoration monitoring.
  • Develop and conduct Pre-Disturbance Site Assessments (PDSAs) and Interim Monitoring Site Assessments (IMSAs).
  • Promote WEST's core values while maintaining a positive and respectful work atmosphere.
  • Summarize and enter data, complete Ground Disturbance packages, and Codes of Practice for site surveys.
Requirements

We are looking for a skilled Senior Soil Scientist with:

  • A diploma or bachelor's degree (or higher) in soil science, land reclamation, ecology, or environmental sciences.
  • No less than 10 years of relevant experience in soil study design, project management, environmental consulting, and business development.
  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions.
  • Ability to rent a vehicle from a rental agency.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), ArcGIS/QGIS.
  • Ability to work long hours in extreme weather conditions.
  • Capacity to hike in rugged terrain for extended periods.
Benefits
