Job Summary

Brandt is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician - Material Handling to join our team at our Cambridge Construction & Forestry location. As a key member of our service team, you will be responsible for performing complex diagnostics, service maintenance, and repair work on customer and dealer-owned equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Performance:
    • Work within budgets and approvals provided by the Service Manager to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
    • Maintain a high level of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin to drive business growth.
    • Meet or exceed a quality of work metric of 98% to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Work Systems and Procedures:
    • Accurately record all work done for customer and warranty records to ensure seamless communication and compliance.
    • Maintain current product knowledge of equipment specific to the industry and location to provide expert service.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
    • Follow all safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for employees and customers.
    • Ensure knowledge and compliance of proper procedure for disposal of hazardous waste material to protect the environment.
    • Work within the guidelines set by the directors and managers to ensure alignment with company objectives.
    • Perform all service tasks as assigned by the Material Handling Service Manager or the Material Handling Service Department Foreman to ensure seamless operations.
    • Participate in Service Training programs to develop skills and knowledge and stay up-to-date with industry-specific technologies.
    • Maintain and care for department tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure optimal performance.
    • Mentor and oversee apprentices to ensure knowledge transfer and development.
  • Diagnostic and Mechanical, Electrical, or Hydraulic Repair:
    • Perform complex power equipment diagnostics to determine repair needs and provide expert solutions.
    • Diagnose and repair all related systems, including disassembly, assembly, and repair, to ensure optimal equipment performance.
    • Perform customer, manufacturer, or government inspections on equipment to ensure compliance and quality.
    • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including forklifts, stackers, electric carts, electric tow trucks, and transporters, to ensure optimal performance and extend equipment life.
    • Utilize drill presses, grinders, air compressors, and common hand/power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on material handling equipment.
    • Prepare all reports and forms required in conjunction with job assignments to ensure seamless communication and compliance.
Requirements
  • Outstanding Knowledge:
    • Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems, and propane systems to provide expert service.
    • Demonstrated diagnostic skills to understand mechanical and electrical systems of battery and engine-powered material handling equipment.
  • Experience:
    • Experience with the use of hand tools and measuring devices, and electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements to ensure accurate diagnoses and repairs.
    • Knowledge and experience with industrial equipment, including lifting/rigging, maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery and industrial mechanical service equipment.
    • Exposure to aligning equipment, using dial indicators/calipers, micrometers, hoists, or jacks is a plus.
    • Strong time-management skills to perform effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Strong communication skills, showing an appreciation of customer needs and providing excellent customer service.
    • Trade qualification (Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, Automotive, Truck/Transport) considered an asset.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and provide excellent teamwork.
    • A commitment to high-quality customer service with a strong people orientation.
