Role Overview

Are you passionate about enhancing the lives of individuals within the community? As a Community Support Worker, you will bring a unique perspective shaped by personal experiences in overcoming challenges related to addiction, homelessness, poverty, or incarceration.

This role, reporting to the Program Operations Manager, involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver essential harm reduction services, overdose prevention strategies, safer treatment alternatives, and community resource access for program participants.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Fostering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for program participants.
  • Delivering a range of physical, emotional, social, and life skills support.
  • Ensuring confidentiality regarding participants' personal information.
  • Implementing overdose prevention measures and interventions as per established protocols.
  • Notifying team members of any participant requiring immediate medical attention.
  • Collaborating effectively with colleagues to address challenges.
  • Utilizing active listening skills to de-escalate conflicts and engaging appropriate team members when necessary.
  • Performing basic cleaning duties at various work sites.
  • Restocking harm reduction and office supplies as needed.
  • Communicating participant feedback and concerns to management and participating in community needs assessments.
  • Adhering to all occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Personal experience with challenges faced by program participants, including homelessness, substance use, mental health issues, and systemic discrimination.
  • Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in using digital technologies, including smartphones and computers.
  • Strong understanding of harm reduction principles.
  • Ability to maintain consistent work hours.
  • Effective organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Training in overdose prevention and intervention.
  • CPR/AED certification.

Employment Terms

Type: Casual.

Compensation: $27.92 per hour, plus 10% in lieu of benefits.

This position is part of a unionized environment.

Successful candidates will undergo a criminal records check.
