Pharmacy Technician Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Fraser Health Authority. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our pharmacy operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process medication orders and prepare prescriptions for distribution to patients, clients, or residents.
  • Verify prescriptions for completeness and authenticity, and perform duties such as checking allergy status and demographics.
  • Prepare and process prescriptions by entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging, or re-packaging medications and compounding sterile pharmaceutical products according to established procedures.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions by verifying order entries and performing final checks.
  • Process prescriptions for temporary inpatient leaves of absence by reviewing, translating, and converting existing inpatient medication orders previously reviewed and approved by a pharmacist.
  • Enter and ensure the accuracy and completeness of drug and personal health information in the pharmacy information system.
  • Transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies.
  • Maintain accurate records, including medication verification and quality assurance checks.
  • Distribute medications and maintain relevant inventory, wardstock, and narcotic records.
  • Maintain department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order, and stocking pharmaceuticals, labels, containers, and glassware according to established procedures and standards.
  • Perform related clerical duties, such as keyboarding, answering the telephone, filing, and maintaining medication and prescription records.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 and graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to keyboard.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
