Job Title: Electrical Systems Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team at Manitoba Hydro. As an Electrical Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical equipment and systems in substations, switchyards, and other locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and installations of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and inspect electrical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Install and commission electrical apparatus and associated controls.
  • Perform electrical construction and new installations for systems.
  • Relocate power, telephone, and communication cables as required.
  • Ensure maintenance records and station procedures are up-to-date.
  • Assist with preparation of estimates and material lists for additions and modifications.
  • Act as a safety watcher to ensure compliance with Corporate and Provincial safety regulations.
  • Provide direction and training to junior staff.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports of work performed.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education and a Manitoba Certificate of Qualification as a Construction Journeyperson Electrician.
  • One year of experience in electrical equipment and system installation and maintenance.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision from diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and oral and written instructions.
  • Proven diagnostic skills and abilities.
  • Familiarity with electrical measuring instruments, devices, equipment, and the interpretation of schematics and construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with station and system operation, construction standards, test procedures, and the use and care of instruments.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and safe working practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
