Job Title: Registered Veterinary Technologist, Critical Care

Department: Critical Care

VCA Canada is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technologist to join our Critical Care team at Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre. As a critical care specialist, you will have the opportunity to work with top board-certified specialists and contribute to delivering exceptional care to our patients.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, compassion, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure atmosphere. You will be responsible for providing inpatient care, facilitating treatments, and monitoring critically ill hospitalized patients. Additionally, you will be on call for after-hours ambulance pick-ups and assist with triage, procedures, and communication with clients and referring hospitals.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide inpatient care and facilitate treatments for critically ill hospitalized patients
  • Be on call for after-hours ambulance pick-ups
  • Assist with triage, procedures, and communication with clients and referring hospitals
  • Administer anesthesia for minor emergency procedures and assist with patient recovery
  • Communicate with clients and referring hospitals on a regular basis
Qualifications:
  • Registered Veterinary Technologist in Alberta
  • Preference given for a minimum three years of experience as an RVT, ideally in an emergency or referral setting
  • Experience in providing general anesthesia and monitoring in dogs and cats
  • Ability to think critically and multi-task while working in a fast-paced, stimulating environment with challenging cases
  • Exceptional time-management skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in performing calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Ability to work well with others in a hospital that requires a multi-disciplinary team approach among the specialty services
  • Compassionate care and superior client communication skills
