Job Title: System Network Engineer

GCT, a leading terminal operator and maritime employer, is seeking a highly skilled System Network Engineer to join our IT Department at our Head Office location in Vancouver, BC.

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented individual to ensure the stable operation of our in-house computer and network systems. This includes optimizing server & network hardware, software, and communication links. The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to support incidents, managing servers and backup servers, and coordinating with external vendors as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage servers and backup servers, including email, print, database, and their associated operating systems and software.
  • Manage Cloud Services, including Microsoft 365, Azure, MFA Providers, and Dropbox.
  • Manage security solutions, including firewall, EDR, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Manage all network hardware and equipment, including VPN, routers, switches, hubs, UPSs, and Netapp filers.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all workstations and devices, including cellular-based workstations.
  • Administer all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Perform server and security audits.
  • Perform system backups and recovery.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Requirements
  • BCIT Technology degree, college diploma, or university degree in computer science and/or 5+ years equivalent work experience managing network and hardware infrastructure.
  • Aggressive, attacker-aware approach to IT security, networks, hardware, software, and network security.
  • Proven database administration skills in Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Any combination of certifications such as MCM/MCSM/MCSE/MCIIP (Microsoft Certified), RHCSA/RHCE (Red Hat Certified), CCNA/CCSP/CCIE (Cisco Certified), CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), VCP/VCAP (VMware Certified Professional), CCIA/CCEE (Citrix Professional), Nortel/Avaya Certified Professional, or equivalents.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to lift objects up to 40lbs, reaching above and below waist-level, and climbing to heights over 30 feet. A valid driver's license and a vehicle are also required.
