The Role:

The Quality Assurance Supervisor at Maple Leaf Foods is tasked with overseeing the successful implementation of food safety initiatives through the assessment, validation, and monitoring of various activities, in addition to conducting program evaluations and audits. The individual will spearhead and collaborate with cross-functional teams during the audit process and the formulation of corrective action strategies for any regulatory or internal compliance issues.

A Glimpse into Daily Responsibilities: Manage a team of Quality Assurance Technicians, ensuring that tasks are executed consistently, efficiently, and align with business objectives. Oversee Quality and Food Safety programs and protocols. Strategize QA staffing needs based on production demands and staffing levels. Conduct training sessions (both individual and group), covering equipment operation, food safety standards, WHMIS, and SDS. Engage in the development, updating, and implementation of cross-functional Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Provide updates and maintenance for HACCP and MLF Food Safety and Quality Programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards for all stakeholders. Prepare for third-party audits (such as HACCP, BRC, FSQMS) and coach cross-functional managers during these evaluations. Assist in follow-up investigations and implement corrective actions based on any deviations identified in plant processes or customer feedback. Support the environmental monitoring program across all relevant equipment and facility areas, ensuring data is accurately recorded in the Environmental Monitoring System (EMS). Analyze sanitation and environmental data to identify root causes of deficiencies and provide feedback to sanitation and operations teams for necessary improvements. Regularly audit and report non-compliance issues, taking corrective measures to ensure adherence to all food safety and quality assurance standards. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and training among both hourly and salaried employees. Offer technical guidance to Manufacturing Operations regarding product quality, food safety, and best manufacturing practices. Plan, actively engage, and communicate effectively regarding Quality Assurance and Food Safety initiatives across various programs, including Sanitation, Employee Relations, and Health and Safety. Cultivate a positive work environment through strong interpersonal skills, open communication, and constructive performance management. Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Sanitation, and other functional areas to support and execute the Company's Food Safety programs. Promote and uphold the company's health and safety initiatives, ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with health regulations. Flexibility to transition between shifts and departments as needed.

Qualifications:

Post-secondary education, preferably a B.Sc. in Chemistry or Microbiology. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in FSQA within a food manufacturing context, ideally in a unionized environment. Familiarity with food chemistry, microbiology, allergen management, auditing, GFSI/BRC standards, sanitary design, and HACCP principles. Proven ability to independently manage and develop a team. Demonstrated capacity to build partnerships across various functional areas to enhance operational efficiency. Knowledge of industry-specific quality systems and inspection protocols. Strong leadership skills and a detail-oriented mindset. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities in English. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel and Word).
