Department: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

Overview:

The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department is seeking an Ecological Research Specialist for a limited-term engagement. This role involves collaboration with governmental and academic entities to leverage extensive datasets pertaining to aquatic ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate hypotheses grounded in relevant literature and professional insights to explore extensive datasets.
  • Analyze large datasets to discern spatial patterns and correlations among fish populations, environmental variables, and lower trophic levels.
  • Engage in collaboration with governmental scientists and biologists.
  • Possibly organize workshops with selected participants from both government and academia.
  • Present findings to collaborating organizations and at scientific gatherings.
  • Draft manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Occasional travel may be required for collaboration and presentation purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: PhD in aquatic ecology, fisheries science, ecological statistics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of three to five years of demonstrated experience in statistical analysis of large datasets, with a proven publication record.
  • Skills: Proficiency in advanced statistical methods, familiarity with aquatic ecosystems, and knowledge of fisheries and Great Lakes ecosystems is advantageous. Expertise in R and its packages, along with ArcGIS, is essential. A working knowledge of MATLAB is beneficial.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
