The YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Inclusion Camp Counselor. This position is vital in fostering an inclusive environment for children with special needs during our day camp programs.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to creating healthy communities and providing a welcoming atmosphere for individuals from all walks of life.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide direct assistance to children with special needs, ensuring their safety and engagement.
- Manage behavioral challenges effectively, employing redirection techniques as necessary.
- Maintain open communication with camper families to support their child's experience.
- Develop and implement inclusion strategies that enhance the camping experience for all participants.
- Serve as a resource for the camp staff regarding inclusive practices.
- Complete weekly reports on camper progress and experiences.
- Actively participate in all camp activities, fostering a spirit of teamwork.
- Engage in weekly staff meetings to discuss strategies and improvements.
- Conduct introductory phone calls with assigned campers to build rapport.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children with special needs in recreational settings.
- Background in day or residential camp environments is preferred.
- Exhibit a positive, caring, and enthusiastic demeanor.
- Must provide a current criminal record check as per organizational policy.
- Commitment to upholding the core values of the YMCA.
