Position Overview:

The Preschool Education Specialist is tasked with nurturing, guiding, and educating young children by implementing age-appropriate activities and experiences for children aged 3 to 5 years. This role emphasizes the importance of fostering cooperative social interactions to help children build positive relationships. The Specialist will collaborate with families and the community to enhance child development.



Essential Competencies:

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a suitable program for children aged 3-5 years.
- Guide and support children in their daily routines.
- Maintain records of daily plans and activities.
- Oversee equipment maintenance and assist with cleaning duties.
- Keep each child's file updated and be aware of any medical conditions, administering medications as directed by a healthcare provider.
- Provide diapering care and assist with toilet training.
- Share insights regarding child development with parents, other professionals, and management.
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Adhere to policies and procedures, including safety protocols.
- Document all accidents and incidents.
- Participate in team planning sessions and monthly staff meetings.
- Prepare snacks and meals for children as necessary.
- Maintain attendance records for children.
- Keep a food logbook updated.

Qualifications:
- Current ECE license to practice in the Province of British Columbia.
- Knowledge of standards of practice and regulations in the ECE sector.
- Required Certifications: Criminal record check, three references, medical clearance, TB clearance, current First Aid Certificate, Food Safe certificate.
- Minimum of two years' experience working with children aged 3-5.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant training in special needs education.
- Class 4 Driver's license.
- Knowledge of sign language.
- Familiarity with the language and culture of the Syilx people.

Work Environment:
- Interact with children, administration, family members, visitors, and government personnel under various circumstances.
- Physical demands include lifting children (up to 45 lbs.), bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing, pulling, sitting, and walking.
- Overtime may be required.
