Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Polysomnographic Technologist to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Polysomnographic Technologist, you will play a critical role in conducting polysomnograms for the diagnosis and treatment of sleep/arousal disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct polysomnographic studies, including electroencephalography, electrooculography, electromyography, electrocardiography, multiple sleep latency, and respiratory tracings.
  • Prepare patients for studies by receiving and interviewing patients, explaining procedures, and connecting patients to monitoring devices.
  • Monitor patients during procedures, recording measurements, and formulating technical reports for interpretation by medical staff.
  • Maintain and monitor laboratory equipment, ensuring safe and effective functioning.
  • Participate in quality control programs, identifying and resolving technical difficulties.
  • Guide clinical experience of new staff and students, demonstrating technical procedures and equipment usage.
  • Participate in team activities, attending departmental meetings and promoting quality management principles.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Respiratory Therapy or Electroneurophysiology Technology from an accredited institution.
  • One year's recent, related experience in sleep study work or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eligible for registration with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Skills and Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of evidence-based polysomnographic theory and practice.
  • Demonstrated skill in the interpretation of electroencephalographic, electroculographic, electromyographic, electrocardiographic, multiple sleep latency tests, and respiratory tracings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, clients, and their families.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet, and databases.
