Job Overview

The primary responsibility of the Shipping and Receiving Associate is to ensure that all incoming and outgoing freight is processed accurately and is in suitable condition for further transportation. This role involves communication with clients and shippers regarding all facets of freight handling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various departments to meet operational objectives.
  • Operate forklift trucks and other freight handling machinery to unload and load transport vehicles efficiently and safely.
  • Conduct precise piece counts, sort, label, and store diverse freight and cargo promptly.
  • Inspect received goods for damage, compliance with regulations for hazardous materials, and accuracy of shipping documents.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and maintain records related to the shipping and receiving of cargo according to established standards.
  • Keep the warehouse, cargo storage areas, and shipping docks organized and clean.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures during the execution of assigned tasks.
  • Report any defects found in ground service equipment or warehouse supplies to the supervisor.
  • Accurately log all incoming freight into the freight tracking software.
  • Manage inventory effectively.
  • Assist with ground crew operations as needed.
  • Help with the loading and unloading of freight from aircraft when required.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities as necessary.
  • Maintain a tidy and safe working environment.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture and a healthy working environment.
  • Uphold Wasaya's Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience in shipping and receiving is advantageous.
  • Proven mechanical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate material handling equipment, including forklifts.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Familiarity with completing waybills is a plus.
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly in MS Office, and adept in using the internet and email.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Capable of interacting with individuals in a sensitive, tactful, and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of Oji-Cree or Ojibway is beneficial.
  • Previous experience in the airline industry is an asset.
  • Familiarity with First Nations Organizations is advantageous.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements
