Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Hardware Engineer (Obsolescence Management) to become a vital part of our M1A1 team. In this role, you will assess the availability of electronic components and support strategic hardware sustainability initiatives. Your collaboration with Program Teams and manufacturers will be essential in identifying and addressing component obsolescence, ensuring efficient manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
As a Hardware Engineer, your contributions will include:
- Conducting engineering analyses and providing technical recommendations for component replacements.
- Implementing predictive obsolescence surveillance for electronic components.
- Engaging with component manufacturers to oversee obsolescence activities and propose solutions.
- Assessing and qualifying alternative components to replace obsolete parts while maintaining product performance and quality.
- Creating and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and part lists.
- Documenting all obsolescence management activities and decisions in detail.
- Preparing and delivering reports on obsolescence risks and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
- Developing test plans and assisting in the debugging of electrical assemblies, focusing on their integration within the overall system.
- Documenting analyses, designs, and tests through various technical documents.
- Initiating and managing product changes via Change Requests (CR) and Engineering Change Proposals (ECP).
- Collaborating with team members to gather measurements and interpret data.
- Overseeing projects aimed at product enhancements.
- Providing technical support during integration and qualification testing.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong proficiency in computer applications, including MS Suite (Excel, Access, Project, Visio, PowerPoint).
- A disciplined approach to engineering development.
- Knowledge of printed circuit board design, power distribution, mechanical enclosures, and manufacturability.
- Familiarity with electronic component specifications and their integration for obsolescence evaluation.
- Understanding of Design For Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
- 2-5 years of experience in product and design for mechanical/electrical products.
- Insight into electronics manufacturing processes (e.g., SMT, Wave).
- Experience with electronics testing equipment (Oscilloscope, Multi-meter) and PCB rework/repair.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- A detail-oriented mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Willingness to travel as required.
