Job Summary

The Cook is a key member of our culinary team, responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals to our residents. As a Cook, you will work under the direction of the Dietary Supervisor to ensure that all meals are prepared and served in a safe and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Dietary Supervisor in ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and guidelines.
  2. Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and production sheets.
  3. Ensure that all food is stored, handled, and served in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
  4. Supervise and assist Dietary Aides in the performance of their duties.
  5. Participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  6. Assist in the orientation of new staff to the department.
  7. Attend in-service education sessions and staff meetings as directed by the Dietary Supervisor.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of culinary practices and techniques.
  • Understanding of therapeutic diets and nutritional needs of the geriatric population.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to supervise.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Proof of annual CPR recertification.

Working Conditions

This position is located in a long-term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis. Work schedule to be determined; shifts may include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
