Position Overview
The Portable Operator/Mill Helper role at Holcim involves collaborating with fellow operators, electricians, welders, and production staff to achieve designated operational tasks. Responsibilities include participating in site safety protocols, conducting risk assessments prior to job execution, and ensuring timely completion of scheduled work while providing constructive feedback to supervisors for operational enhancements.
Compensation and Work Schedule
This position offers competitive wages along with benefits, a pension plan, and potential pay increases after a specified period. The role requires flexibility with split shifts from 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM, including overtime and occasional weekend work as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Operations:
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment alongside coworkers, supervisors, and management.
- Execute cleanup tasks utilizing skid steers and hand tools while adhering to safety protocols around moving equipment.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and operate assigned mobile machinery as per training and directives.
- Perform scheduled maintenance checks and lubrication of equipment in accordance with established procedures and manuals.
- Assist in the repair of malfunctioning machinery and contribute to plant maintenance as required.
- Keep supervisors informed of any issues impacting assigned duties.
- Be adaptable as specific job responsibilities may change based on operational needs.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all applicable safety regulations and standards.
- Utilize all prescribed personal protective equipment.
- Maintain strict compliance with Holcim safety policies and procedures.
- Report all incidents, near misses, and safety hazards to management.
- Follow Lockout/Tag out protocols.
- Be aware of emergency response plans.
- Be open to working rotating shifts, overtime, and weekends as required.
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Exhibit dependability by following instructions and responding to supervisory guidance.
Environmental Stewardship:
- Ensure compliance with Holcim and regulatory environmental standards.
- Be vigilant regarding environmentally sensitive areas and address any potential environmental issues in the work zone.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other tasks as assigned to support the efficient operation of the facility.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Preferred experience in construction, mining, or heavy machinery operation. Basic welding and fitting skills are necessary.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime, and weekends as necessary.
- Strong written and oral communication abilities.
- Reliability in following instructions and responding to supervisory direction.
Working Conditions:
- Work will be conducted outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Indoor work may involve exposure to hot, noisy, or dusty environments.
- Ability to navigate all areas of the facility is essential.
- Work may involve heights and requires physical capability to perform job duties.
