Role Overview
In this position, you will serve as the primary project leader on-site, responsible for the planning, execution, and successful completion of control systems projects for designated clients. You will either perform or delegate necessary tasks to ensure projects are fully executed, which includes hardware design, system programming, installation management, network commissioning, and project closure. You will oversee the financial performance of your projects, managing costs, billing, and collections while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction and project profitability. You will actively seek opportunities for change orders and maintain communication with clients throughout all project phases. Additionally, you will ensure warranty execution and provide guidance to subcontractors, technicians, designers, and administrative staff as needed. Compliance with all legal requirements and adherence to ethical standards is paramount, as is ensuring that all safety protocols are followed.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct typical installation hardware design and software programming in accordance with established standards. Provide comprehensive information to convey design and operational details to clients, Johnson Controls personnel, and subcontractors.
- Proactively seek additional work through change orders, assessing the contractual scope and implications of client-issued directives or scheduling adjustments. Communicate both technical and business-related matters effectively with clients.
- Oversee the selection, procurement, budgeting, and delivery timelines for materials needed for assigned projects. Secure pricing and availability from external vendors and subcontractors, managing the bidding process as necessary. Supervise subcontractor payment and billing procedures.
- Coordinate job site logistics for the placement of panels and field devices, ensuring installation aligns with Johnson Controls documentation and project specifications.
- Manage the loading, verification, and commissioning of all system controllers as required, ensuring full system functionality and resolving any issues with subcontractors to guarantee proper operation. Provide accurate as-built and commissioning documentation.
- Oversee project costs, billing, and collections, ensuring timely and accurate billing to clients while maintaining profitability and positive cash flow. Schedule monthly project costs within the accounting system.
- Offer coaching, mentoring, and technical support to System Technicians, Electrical Installers, and System Designers, ensuring delegated tasks are completed accurately, on time, and within budget.
- Effectively communicate project status to management and provide monthly forecasts regarding revenue, costs, and gross margins.
- Send warranty letters to clients upon substantial project completion and ensure proper warranty execution.
- Develop project plans and coordinate necessary resources to guarantee timely and cost-effective project installation and completion.
- Conduct site-specific training for owners/operators on the complete system, ensuring they are adequately trained and provided with the necessary documentation and manuals.
- Foster and maintain strong long-term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors, attending job progress meetings as required.
- Adhere to safety standards, demonstrating a high regard for the safety of employees and subcontractors.
Qualifications
Required:
- A minimum of an Associate's Degree in a technical field with two years of field experience, or four years of equivalent experience in the HVAC sector.
- Hands-on experience in systems design and commissioning of digital HVAC control systems is essential.
- Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience is crucial.
- Demonstrated capability to work independently is required.
Preferred:
- Strong proficiency in personal computer applications.
- Knowledge of control theory and HVAC systems is advantageous.
- Familiarity with project accounting, cost principles, and contracting is preferred.
